Photography Tips
-
LIGHTING-select an
area that has sufficient light but not harsh, direct light.
Indoors near a bright window or outside in the shade or late in
the day is perfect! You may use your camera's flash if
needed.
-
BACKGROUND-a very
simple background is ideal. You can use bed sheets, a
plain wall, or a natural setting outdoors.
-
CLOTHING-it is always
best to use simple clothing without patterns or very bright
colors. This helps to maintain focus on the subject, not
what they are wearing.
-
FOCUS-since very
little can be done about a blurry picture, it's important to get
a nice clear and sharp picture. Consult your camera's
manual if you are unsure of how to achieve this.
-
GET CLOSER-get closer
to your subject. Most people tend to stand too far away
and the picture results in the subject way too small in the
photo to distinguish.
- CENTER-to ensure
we have plenty of photo to work with, it's best to center the
subject as much as possible and avoid going over the edge of the
photo. If you are just taking a headshot, obviously the
body doesn't need to be in the picture.
- MORE THAN ONE SUBJECT-If
you have more than one subject, the picture will turn out much
better if they are placed close together.
- GET LEVEL WITH THE SUBJECT-your
pictures will also turn out better if you get on the level of
your subject. This is important when photographing babies
and children.
- HAVE FUN-this is
so important! You can take great pictures with any camera
and the least bit of knowledge about photography. Just
keep these few tips in mind and you'll have some fantastic
pictures for your photo cards.
